Coach Education
In the past I have run several Coaching Workshops in Leicester on behalf of Leicester Fencing Club. Professor Graham Stretton was lead tutor on these days. Sometimes I was training for my coaching, and a couple of times I was assisting in the education of Level 1 and Level 2 coaches.

Since then I have assisted in the delivery of an England Fencing Level 1/Level 2 Coach Education Course in the Autumn of 2010. This helped me gain my CTS (Certificate of Tutoring in Sport Level 3) and IAPS (Introduction to Assessment Practices in Sport) qualifications. As one of only two people, so far, to have gained this qualification I am in a unique position to assist people to gain initial coaching qualifications.

For those people who are already coaches, who wish to gain a better qualification, I am able to offer assistance with personal performance for coaching. I know from personal experience that this has been essential for me to climb up the coaching ladder. Please see the following section for more information.

Personal Performance
Several fencers have booked time away from clubs in order to train on a one-to-one basis. This has several benefits, not only does it offer the opportunity for greater levels of concentration, but it also allows the fencer to work on a specific aspect of their technique or tactics for a longer period of time over regular sessions.

As mentioned above I have had the opportunity to work with an excellent coach on my own personal performance which has enhanced my own fencing as well as my coaching. I am well aware how important personal performance lessons are for improving technique for coaching as this is shown in the pupils I work with.

Not only is it strongly recommended that fencers take up private lessons but also coaches wishing to climb the coaching ladder.

If you are interested in coach education and/or in personal performace contact me.

I am also able to cater for the various aspects in the school curriculum which are associated with fencing; Duke of Edinburgh Award, GCSE and A Level PE, Junior and Community Sport Leader Awards and other Sport Science related courses.

Corporate Team Building
Have you ever wondered how to build a successful team of individuals? Through fencing, either minifence or full kit, you can build good working relationships upon which you can build a truly motivated workforce.

With such a unique and unusual activity, participants are sure to remember the experience. Not only will it build mental and physical strategy but it will also teach an unparalleled skill to use in business.

Fencing can help to improve concentration levels, mental and physical abilities, control, co-ordination and balance as well as strategy and tactics in the modern world.

Why not ask about how minifence and/or ‘metal’ fencing can get young and old alike flocking to your event. Anybody from as young as 6 up to 106 can take part! This could be in conjunction with a demonstration or a taster session.

Past events have included the fair at Foxton Locks. Please enquire for more details.

Wheelchair fencing and Disabled fencing
Fencing has been in the Olympic Games since 1896 and disabled or wheelchair fencing was developed in 1960 by Sir Ludwig Guttmann at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

I am currently coaching several people who qualify for wheelchair fencing, even though they don’t use a wheelchair! Please see the criteria for more information.

Athletes who have had a spinal cord injury (quadriplegic and paraplegic), athletes with lower leg amputations, athletes with cerebral palsy and athletes with other physical disabilities which require the use of a wheelchair are all eligible to compete in wheelchair fencing.

Classification

• Class A incorporates those athletes with good balance and recovery and full trunk movement;
• Class B those with poor balance and recovery but full use of one or both upper limbs;
• Class C athletes with severe physical impairment in all four limbs.

Private Fencing Lessons
If you are a current fencer in the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland area and you fence Foil or Epee, please contact me as we can organise lessons as part of a group or on an individual basis.

Private lessons give fencers the opportunity to gain more quality time with a coach. If fencers are under 18 I will require the parent/guardian to stay in the hall at all times during the lesson.

For more information or to enquire about individual training programmes designed for you please contact me using the details supplied.
